My favorite product this week is Lumigan (see this week’s Article of the week below or visit this link), which we always carry at my dermatology office and also have at Euro Day Spa, Salon & Laser Center (La Paz Road) on Fridays when I am working there.  You do NOT need an appointment to get it, just stop by.  Print this page and bring it to my office and receive $10 off!  If you don’t live in the area and would like to call to order this product, call 949-363-1788 and mention this special.  This offer expires 8/8/08.

Article of the week: A Patient’s Story about her Lumigan Eyelashes

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

Lumigan is one of the most popular products we sell in my office.  It is a prescription eye drop that when applied to the base of the eyelashes also stimulates eyelash growth.  It has worked in 100% of the approximately 1000 patients we have sold it to.  In fact, your eyelashes continue to grow until you have to actually trim them (I know from personal experience!)  Continued maintenance at two-to-three times per week then keeps them at the perfect length of your choice.

One of my patients was having a romantic dinner with her husband recently and emailed me this story:

“Ken and I were having dinner during my birthday weekend and he leans toward me real romantically…stares into my eyes…and says….I’ve never seen your eyelashes so long.  I can’t stop looking at them.  I bust out laughing…thought of you and my lumigan solution…and the mood went right out the window.  So it must be working

If you have a cute or funny story regarding a treatment or product you have received from my office or spas, please send it to me as a comment to this story.  I’m sure my other readers would love to read it too!  It can be about Lumigan or anything related to dermatology or spa treatments or products.

Sunscreens

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

I know it’s obvious but please wear your sunscreen every day!  This is my first skin care tip within my blog so it must be the most important one.  If you are having significant sun exposure wear at least an SPF 30 since most of us don’t put enough on and therefore you are lucky to get an SPF 10-15 out of your SPF 30 sunscreen!  If you’ll be sweating or in the water get a waterproof one.  And don’t forget to reapply it frequently if you are outside for a long time.

My favorites: Doc Martin (the best waterproof sunscreen I have ever used! It’s from Maui and hard to find but we have it at my office), Fenix Rehydrating Sunscreen SPF 30 (the most cosmetically elegant sunscreen I’ve used and also hypoallergenic and a great moisturizer) and Vivite Complete Daily Facial Moisturizer with SPF 30 (the best rejuvenation-sunscreen-moisturizer combination product I know of.)

Article of the Week - Fainting with Juvederm, Radiesse and Artefill Injections

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

I find that when I do injectable fillers, such as Juvederm, Radiesse and Artefill I occasionally have patients who faint or nearly faint.  It is common but we do our best to try to prevent it if possible.  Before I treat a patient for the first time with a filler I usually ask them if they have ever fainted or gotten light-headed in the past with medical procedures or blood tests.  If a patient says “yes” we put their feet up and recline them slightly, which usually prevents the problem from occurring.  After treating hundreds of patients with fillers, I have discovered an interesting correlation with other answers to my question.  If they give me an immediate, firm “no”, sometimes with a small laugh (as if to say, “me, are you kidding!?”), I know they will be fine and rarely will they become light-headed or faint.  If however they hesitate in the least when answering my question, or answer “not really”, 9 times out of 10 they will get light-headed, usually when we are almost done with this quick 10 minute procedure.  This was proven to me once again this week and I have decided that “not really” actually means, “I don’t want to, I will try my best not to, I am hoping I won’t, but I will DEFINITELY get light-headed after you start to inject me, whether I think I will or not.”

So, if you aren’t 99% - 100% sure you won’t faint or get light-headed, don’t be embarrassed about it.  Tell your doctor.  A caring physician will take special care to help you avoid this.
