Product of the Week - Vivite Vibrance Therapy

Allergan’s Vivite line just came out with a great new product: Vibrance.  This is a product which lightens discolorations and pigmentation on the skin, including melasma and sun spots, without hydroquinone.  I like hydroquinone but not everyone can use it, plus it’s great to use with a hydroquinone product, such as Obagi Nu-Derm Clear. Since the best hydroquinone products like Nu-Derm Clear are by prescription only or sold only through physician offices, we sell those in my office but not on-line.  However, Vibrance is available both on-line, in my spas and in my office.  It’s a great product, I use it myself along with Obagi.  We are offering a special through 9/30/08 on this product.  Just mention this blog special at any of our locations and receive $20 off.

  1. Dorrie Says:

How is this product used in conjunction with Obagi Clear?

  2. lorrie Says:

Vibrance and Obagi Clear go great together, their active ingredients are complimentary and help brown spots fade faster. I recommend applying Obagi Clear first, wait 1 minute or so then apply Vibrance over it. Alternatively you can use of these products in the morning and the other at night.

I use Renova every night. I do have discolorations which really bother me. I would like to try the Vibrance therapy. How should it be used while using the Renova? How can it be purchased?

  4. Dr. Lorrie Klein Says:

That is a great question. Vivite Vibrance can definitely be used in conjunction with Renova and any RetinA, Tazorac, Avage , glycolic acid or retinol product. I recommend Vibrance be used twice daily. In the evening you can apply it first, wait 1 minute and then apply your Renova over it.

  5. Dr. Lorrie Klein Says:

Vivite Vibrance can be purchased through physicians. We also carry it on our spa website: http://www.eurodayspainc.com/vivite-vibrance-therapy-p-506.html (also see link above in my favorite product of the week section.)

  6. Lindsay Says:

I currently use the Obagi 0.5 retinol along with a 4% hydroquinone cream nightly to fade my brown spots caused by melasma. They have faded, but not completley. When I asked about Renova and other related products I was told they do not work as well. I would like to try something different because I feel like the hydoquinone cream is clogging my pores and I would like to see better results.

  7. Dr. Lorrie Klein Says:

Obagi 0.5 tretinoin is a form of RetinA, which is almost identical to Renova, they both have the same active ingredient at the same concentration. I would recommend continuing using the Obagi tretinoin in the evening with the hydroquinoine and ADD VIVITE VIBRANCE in the morning with or without the hydroquinoine, depending on how you tolerate the hydroquinoine. Vivite Vibrance is non-irritating and will enhance your treatment results.

  8. M Says:

How does this product work on people with darker skin? I have Asian skin. Also, if I were to use this, would I need to use an SPF during the day?

  9. Dr. Lorrie Klein Says:

Vivite Vibrance is safe and effective for every skin type. You should ALWAYS use an SPF of at least 30 if you have melasma or other discoloration of the skin as the sun will worsen it. There is no special need for a sunscreen with Vivite Vibrance however.

  10. Dorrie Says:

Thank you, Dr. Klein. So, Clear first, and then Vibrance. How about at night, would I use the Vibrance after the Retin A/Blender, or is that necessary?

  11. Dr. Klein Says:

Always put thinner products first and thicker, creamier products over them. I would use Vivite Vibrance both morning and night.

  12. Dr. Lorrie Klein’s Blog » Blog Archive » Favorite Product of the Week - Vivite Vibrance (once again!) Says:

[...] Obagi products and it has worked much better than 4% hydroquinone alone.  I have gotten a lot of comments on this product and people are very excited about it.  Its great to have a new product for [...]

  13. Dorrie Says:

Is the Vivite Vibrance thinner than the Obagi Clear, which would mean Vibrance would go on first?

So, I would use the Vivite Vibrance first, then the Obagi Clear and continue on with the morning Obagi products, and in the evening, I would put the Vivite Vibrance on again before the Clear, and then continue on with the Retin A/Blender?

I would love to try the Vibrance product, but I definitely need to know where to fit it in with my Obagi regimen. Thanks in advance.

  14. Dr. Lorrie Klein Says:

Yes, use Vivite Vibrance exactly as you described. Feel free to call my office if you need further instructions or have other questions: 949-363-1788.

  15. Dorrie Says:

Thank you very much, Dr. Klein!

  18. Tina Carson Says:

I’m pregnant and will be nursing afterwards for several months. Is this product safe to use while pregnant? I know I can’t use any hydroquinine now but I’d love to start tackling my melasma.

  19. Dr. Lorrie Klein Says:

To my knowledge it is safe to use when pregnant and also when nursing. You can check with your obstetrician also (show her the ingredient list).

  20. rose Says:

I saw an advertisement on this product and I’m interested in trying it. I would like to try it though on my legs. I’ve had schlerotherapy which has caused hyperpigmentation. They had me using hiruval cream which is not lightening the areas. I’m asian and they are trying laser (IPL) as well and I see no results. Do you think this product might work for this type of discoloration? Thank you!

  21. Till Says:

Can vivite be used with Mama lotion (mandelic acid)? I just bought a full
bottle and I would hate to throw the product out.

  22. Dr. Lorrie Klein Says:

Yes, Vivite Vibrance can be used with just about every other product.

  23. Dr. Lorrie Klein Says:

    Dear Rose
Vivite Vibrance and all hydroquinone products lighten melanin pigmentation, which comes from the melanocytes in the skin. Dark spots that arise from sclerotherapy are usually due to the deposition of hemosiderin in the skin, an iron-containing substance that leaks out of red blood cells. These products will not work for this condition.
IPL may help you but as you experienced it often does not. Your spots may lighten with time so be patient.

  24. Rene' Cook Says:

I would like to know if it is safe for pregnant or breast feeding women to use Vivite’ Vibrance, and the entire Vivite’ system. Is there any clinical data to verify it’s safety? What is the Dr’s opinion?

  25. Dr. Lorrie Klein Says:

Rene, I have investigated your question by contacting Allergan, the makers of Vivite Vibrance and the Vivite system. As far as they know there have not been any reported problems with any of the ingredients in any of the Vivite products when used during pregnancy but they have not been tested in pregnant women so they cannot advice us on safety. My personal advice would be that it is okay to use as none of the ingredients have been reported, to my knowledge, to cause problems but that you should double check with your OB before using any new products during pregnancy.

  26. Rhonda Says:

I am a black female with a lot of dark spots on my skin. I went to a clinic and they recommended a facial peel and the Vivite Vib Ther. Do I need both and will vivite workon afro-americans?

  27. Dr. Lorrie Klein Says:

Rhonda, I can’t advise you without seeing you on whether you should have a peel or not, but I can tell you that Vivite Vibrance is both safe and effective on all skin types, including african-american. Whether or not you have a treatment, it will help to use Vibrance.

  28. Donna Says:

Does the Vivite Vibrance work on post inflammatory hyperpigmentation left from acne? What is your recommendation for treating PIH? I am currently using the Obagi Clear but is causing my skin to break out.

  29. Dr. Lorrie Klein Says:

Vivite Vibrance should help most forms of hyperpigmentation, including the post inflammatory type from acne. Using it in conjunction with a hydroquinone product such as Obagi Clear is usually best if you want to be agressive in your treatment. If the Obagi Clear is making you break out consider trying a different hydroquinone product, such as Obagi C Clarifying Serum.
