Favorite Skin Care Product of the Week - Clarisonic MD for the holidays

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

The Clarisonic MD Skin Care System is my favorite product this week and one of my favorite gift ideas for the holidays. This device is a must for teens and adults prone to acne, nothing cleans the skin and pores better than the Clarisonic MD.  It also helps all skin care products, including rejuvenation products, penetrate deeper into the skin, so anyone who cares about how their skin looks will love this product.

CLARISONIC® MD, only available from physicians is manufactured by the makers of the Sonicare® toothbrush. Utilizing the same sonic technology which has reinvented the way we clean our teeth the CLARISONIC® Skin Care System now cleanses our skin. We carry it at my dermatology office and at both Euro Day Spa (Golden Lantern) and Euro Day Spa, Salon & Laser Center (La Paz Road).  Although we have the physician model which has higher speeds and can treat the entire body, you do NOT need an appointment to get it, just stop by.  Print this page and bring it with you to receive $30 off!  If you would like to read more about it or order the Clarisonic Skin Care System online, visit our website.  This offer expires 12/24/08.

Favorite Products of the Week -SkinMedica

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

Coming to our office this week!  SkinMedica products were developed by Dr. Fitzpatrick, an internationally recognized dermatologist.  SkinMedica products contain wonderful rejuvenating ingredients, including anti-oxidants and skin growth factors  They have recently released several new products this year which are so phenomenal that I decided to carry them in both my office and both Euro Day Spa locations.

Their scientifically proven compounds include essential ingredients ranging from vitamins C and E to retinol to NouriCel-MD®, their patented blend of growth factors, soluble collagen, antioxidants and matrix proteins. Their flagship product, TNS Recovery Complex is the only product in the world that contains over 93% naturally occurring growth factors (grown from actual skin cell cultures.)  The results: fine lines are reduced, age spots and discoloration fade, and skin texture and elasticity is improved. All results of their commitment to creating a lifelong skin care solution for healthier skin.

Stay tuned, in a few weeks I will blog more about these products and offer some great specials too!  Until then, mention this blog special to receive 10% off any SkinMedica product purchased in my dermatology office.  Call for more information 949-363-1788.  This offer expires 12/15/08.

Dry, chapped lips

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

For those of you who are prone to dry lips, this time of year is one of the worst times for you.  Here in Southern California the Santa Ana winds are blowing, drying out our skin and our lips.  Elsewhere in the country where the weather is getting cold, indoor heating also can dry them out.  Other risk factors for chapped and dry lips is licking your lips and using lip cosmetics that are drying, such as some long-lasting lip colors.

I recommend applying a good lip moisturizer as often as possible, especially before bedtime and after meals.  This will prevent and also treat dry, chapped lips.  A simple yet great one is Aquaphor ointment.  It’s inexpensive and works great.  Put on a thick layer before bedtime and your lips will feel and look better in the morning.  If you have a large tube of it and want to carry it in your purse or pocket, I recommend getting a small container with a screw top and putting some of it in there.  It can be messy if it leaks, so get one with a tight lid.

Other great product specifically made for lip moisturinzing is Neostrata Lip Conditioner .  It’s inexpensive and works very well.  It also contains a sunscreen.

Also, try not to pick or peel your lips, it will just make them worse.  Keep moisturizing them and they will get better.  If you have persistant scaley areas, see your dermatologist as it could indicate an allergy to a food or product or a pre-cancerous or cancerous lesion.

Reducing Bruising after Cosmetic Procedures

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

One of the side effects of treatments that involve injections is potential bruising.  This is often seen after filler injections, such as Juvederm, Radiesse and Artefill.  My advice to patients to minimize bruising as much as possible after these and other procedures that involve potential bruising is three-fold:

  1. Avoid aspirin and all ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, etc.) and naproxen (Alleve, etc.) containing pain medications, if they are not medically necessary, for at last 1 week before.  Acetominophen (Tylenol, etc.) are okay to take as it does not effect clotting as the other medications do.
  2. Plan some time to apply ice to the treated areas frequently for at least a few hours after your treatment.
  3. Take Arnica Montana, an herbal medication, that day and the day after.  The oral versions work better than the creams.  This herbal medication really does work and even comes in stronger, physician-strength capsules which are often available through your physician.  We carry it specifically for our filler patients to use.

Patients undergoing surgical procedures involving the skin, such as skin cancer surgery and plastic surgery also can benefit from this medication.   Always check with your dermatologist or surgeon before taking this and other medications before surgery.

Article of the Week - Meet our “Ugly Bettie” Contest Winner

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

We have finished our make-over of Julie, our beautiful “Ugly Bettie” contest winner.  Julie was chosen because she has beautiful features but she needed some rejuvenation of her skin and refreshing of her eyes and mouth.  Age, sun and stress add years to our looks but thanks to cosmetic dermatology procedures such as Botox, fillers and lasers we can reverse many of these changes.   Julie had Botox to raise her brows and smooth out her crows feet, frown and forehead wrinkles.  We gave her Juvederm to enhance her lips and smooth her lip wrinkles, smile lines and marrionette lines and she received a series of IPL (photofacial) treatments to smooth her skin texture, remove her brown spots and even out her skin color.   Lastly, she received a spa makeover at my day spa and salon: Euro Day Spa, Salon & Laser Center where she received a light, natural makeup application and a hair style at our salon.   Here are her before and after photos.  You can see her lack of wrinkles better when she is not smiling, but I couldn’t resist putting in this smiling photo, as it truly expresses how she feels about her treatments.

Julie, you look gorgeous! Look for Julie’s comments about her treatments in an upcoming blog entry.   If you have any questions about how these cosmetic dermatology treatments or spa and salon treatments would work for you, please call our office at 949-363-1788 or Euro Day Spa, Salon & Laser Center at 949-831-2006.
